About the Therapeutic Massage Program

Massage therapy is a growing field in the United States as more and more people recognize the benefits of massage to relieve pain, reduce stress and tension, and prevent injury. Students are prepared to work in a variety of settings from hospitals and physical therapy centers to spas and salons.

The Virginia College Therapeutic Massage program requires completion of 96 credits. Four in a foundation class, which prepares students for their educational experience, sixteen credits in general education requirements, and 76 in specific massage related areas.

Students of the Therapeutic Massage program focus on areas such as Anatomy and Physiology, Kinesiology, Medical terminology, Medical law, Pathophysiology, Nutrition and health science and Introduction to massage.

In addition, students will study Swedish massage, Deep tissue massage, Therapeutic massage, Eastern massage techniques, Special population massage and Massage business principles, law, and ethics. Students receive an all-encompassing education in the aspects of the massage therapy business.

The Montgomery campus of Virginia College features small class sizes, so faculty members can get to know their students personally. Virginia College – Montgomery is located at 6200 Atlanta Highway. It is a small campus which creates an intimate learning atmosphere. The campus provides a full range of student services.

Montgomery Alabama Massage SchoolsAs the state capitol, Montgomery is a hub of government and politics in Alabama. In addition, the city is home to Maxwell Air Force Base, and, in addition to Virginia College, is also home to Alabama State University, and Auburn University – Montgomery.

While Montgomery has been home to several civil-rights activists throughout history, perhaps the most famous of these is Rev. Dr. Martin L. King Jr.. The Dexter Avenue Baptist Church where King was a pastor is located just two blocks from the state capitol, and is home to a civil rights memorial.

In addition, Dr. King’s march for justice was conducted from Selma to Montgomery, and is just one example of the struggle for equality that defines Montgomery to this day.
While the economy of Montgomery was under recession for numerous years, things have begun to turn around. With Hyundai Motor Company opening its first assembly plant in Montgomery, and revitalization efforts giving the downtown area a much needed “face-lift,” the city of Montgomery is making great strides.
