The Pima Medical Institute (PMI) was founded by the husband and wife team of Richard Luebke, Sr. and
JoAnn Luebke in 1972. The Luebke’s had a goal of providing first-class medical career education programs in Tucson, AZ. As the demand for affordable medical training grew, additional campuses were opened. Pima Medical Institute currently offers medical career training on 9 campuses in the western United States.

The Mesa campus of PMI was established in 1986. The city of Mesa is part of the Phoenix metro area and sits on a large plateau at an elevation slightly higher than Phoenix.
Mesa is an unusually large suburban city and is larger than many major cities in the U.S., including Pittsburgh and St. Louis. The extraordinary growth of population in the Southwest has fueled Mesa’s growth and has enhanced the demand for qualified medical professionals throughout the region.
Graduates of PMI’s Massage Therapy Program will have the opportunity to work in a variety of medical facilities including hospitals, doctor’s offices, rehab centers and clinics. Other employment settings include resorts, spas, health clubs and sports facilities. Graduates will also have the option of starting their own business or contracting their services to other organizations.
The goal at Pima Medical Institute is to provide students of the massage therapy program with the knowledge and skills to determine their own path to success. You will learn massage techniques that will qualify you to treat patients requiring preventive maintenance, injury rehabilitation, stress management and overall wellness. You will also learn how to care for specific conditions such as back pain headaches and carpal tunnel syndrome.
The massage therapy curriculum at PMI includes training in a variety of massage modalities along with rigorous coursework in anatomy, physiology and kinesiology. Specific classes include, Swedish Massage, Asian Theory and Body Work, Condition-Specific Massage, Sports-Injury Management, Spa Technologies, and Massage for Special Populations.
Participants will also be taught the various interpersonal skills and ethical behaviors necessary to be a respected massage therapist. Included in the massage therapy program at Pima Medical Institute is a supervised internship at Spa Pima. Students will have the opportunity to practice hands-on massage techniques utilizing the sate-of-the-art resources at the spa.
PMI is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools and is licensed by key education agencies in the states in which they operate. In addition, many of our programs have received accreditation from independent review boards in a variety of disciplines.
In order to reinforce the confidence of our students and continue to enhance their outstanding reputation, PMI continually seeks to gain recognition and accreditation from authorized agencies. Based on these validations of educational excellence, students at Pima Medical Institute are eligible to participate in all available Federal financial aid programs.
While PMI strives to keep program affordable for all enrolled, they realize that financial need varies according to the unique circumstances of each student. The Financial Aid staff is available to help students at Pima Medical Institute determine eligibility for financial aid and work through the application process.
Students are eligible to participate in Federal Pell Grants, Federal SEOG (Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant), Federal Subsidized Stafford Loans, Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduates, Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnerships, and Campus Based Funding. In addition, U.S. Armed Forces veterans attending PMI are eligible for funding from various Veterans programs.
