About the School

Heritage College (which also operates under the name Heritage Institute) was founded in 1986 in Denver, Colorado. It originally operated as a healthcare training center for adult learners interested in medical office work. Even though the curriculum has changed since then, the school has continued in the medical vein. Additional fields of study have provided more opportunities for career development.

The school’s philosophy is “to remain progressive in the concept of the educational offerings in all programs by staying abreast of the changes and trends in occupational areas.” To this end, classes are offered in a variety of formats and with flexibility for those returning to school after already entering the workforce or starting a family.

About the Program

Students in the massage therapy program can expect hands-on training in massage modalities like deep tissue massage, sports massage, Swedish massage, neuromuscular massage, Chinese massage, and clinical assessment. Foundation-building skills are offered in anatomy and physiology, as well as general business practices. This focus on both massage and career preparedness is adopted by Heritage College to help students learn massage therapy as an entire profession.

Students who don’t live in the area might also be able to take advantage of the Structured Learning distance education program, which provides an online degree in tandem with clinical massage facilities in a number of other locations (usually at an on-site massage school one day per week). Contact the school for more information on where you must live to be eligible for this program.

Faculty

Faculty members have trained in massage therapy at a professional level, and are asked to provide hands-on skills development geared toward the workplace. Small class sizes are the norm to increase personal one-on-one time, though students opting for online distance learning can expect a different learning format.

Facilities

In addition to the Arkansas facility, campuses can be found across Ohio, Colorado, Florida, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas—all of them focused on real-world settings and classrooms that use the latest technology to facilitate learning. Career services facilities on each campus are available to help with finding a job, though employment is never guaranteed.

Accreditation

Heritage College is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), an accrediting body that targets postsecondary institutions in the allied health field. This accreditation does not guarantee that students can sit for the national certification exam in massage.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Federal and state funding are run through the traditional FAFSA forms and program, so you will need to fill out the appropriate applications before you can be eligible for grants, loans, or other government benefits. Financial aid in this form isn’t guaranteed, and students are responsible for all repayment terms regardless of whether or not they complete the massage therapy program.

About the City

As the capital of Arkansas, Little Rock is a vibrant metropolitan center that acts as a hub for the South. In addition to great opportunities in employment and industry, the setting here tends to favor a slower pace of life, which means the focus is on family, friends, and enjoying all that the scenery has to offer. Most of the students who attend Heritage College already live in the area, though you can relocate to attend classes here.
