About the Therapeutic Massage Program

Massage therapy is a growing field in the United States as more and more people recognize the benefits of massage to relieve pain, reduce stress and tension, and prevent injury. Students are prepared to work in a variety of settings from hospitals and physical therapy centers to spas and salons.

Biloxi, MS Massage Therapy StudentsThe Virginia College Therapeutic Massage program requires completion of 96 credits. Four in a foundation class, which prepares students for their educational experience, sixteen credits in general education requirements, and 76 in specific massage related areas.

Students of the Therapeutic Massage program focus on areas such as Anatomy and Physiology, Kinesiology, Medical terminology, Medical law, Pathophysiology, Nutrition and health science and Introduction to massage.

In addition, students will study Swedish massage, Deep tissue massage, Therapeutic massage, Eastern massage techniques, Special population massage and Massage business principles, law, and ethics. Students receive an all-encompassing education in the aspects of the massage therapy business.

A city in the midst of rebuilding, Biloxi is just one of several coastal cities devastated by Hurricane Katrina. With over 90% of the buildings along the coast in Biloxi damaged or destroyed in the hurricane, the city has been undergoing a huge rebuilding and clean up effort for over 3 years.

Originally settled by the French in the late 17th century, there are historic landmarks throughout Biloxi. One of these, Beauvoir, was the home of Jefferson Davis. It, along with St. Michael's Catholic Church, was damaged in the hurricane, and is still being restored to pre-storm conditions.

A city on the mend, Biloxi is a city determined to bounce back. Each day, businesses reopen, and residents and tourists alike rediscover all that the city has to offer. As such, Biloxi is a great place to live, work, and go to school!
