Massage Therapy and Pain Relief

In yet another example of massage being introduced to mainstream medical care, a study funded by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs has indicated that massage can have a significant impact on pain in post-operative care. In some cases, a 20-minute massage was said to have the same effect as a dose of morphine. In addition, patients also experienced reduction in anxiety.

This is just one more indication that, among all of the high-tech and ultra-expensive health care practices, massage can make a significant contribution to the healing process and to the general well-being of patients receiving medical care. I believe that, in the next5-10 years, massage therapists will see a dramatic expansion in the options available in mainstream medical facilities.
