There are two separate massage programs offered through the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. At the two-year level, students may earn their Associate of Occupational Studies in Massage Therapies (AOS). Students learn both Eastern techniques (tui na, kinesiology, and myology) as well as more traditional modalities. Courses in basic anatomy and the other sciences are also part of the curriculum.
At the four-year level, there is an option to earn a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Asian Holistic Health & Massage. This program combines Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) training as well as the same massage modalities learned in the Associate course. For both programs, students can opt to take complimentary classes in yoga, tai ji, meditation, and martial arts.
Pacific College of Oriental Medicine offers some of the best professors of massage in the industry. The over 200 faculty members (spread out over the three campuses) are not only qualified in their respective fields, but they are also academics. They perform studies, write for professional journals, and often include a training component overseas in order to continue providing cutting-edge education in massage and holistic health.
The San Diego campus of Pacific College is located in the Mission Valley District, and includes the primary building as well as an annexed addition that makes room for even more classrooms and study centers. It covers a total of 27,000 square feet in all, boasting eleven classrooms as well as offices, a library, and a common area for students to study. There is also an acupuncture clinic here.
Pacific College of Oriental Medicine holds an accredited from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC), which means that the school is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a provider of degrees and diplomas. Graduates of both massage programs are eligible to sit for the national certification exam through both the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
Financial aid is available to those who qualify. The schools official financial aid offices are located at this campus, so students can meet face-to-face with advisors who will help them determine funding sources and fill out the necessary forms. Many students help pay for school with federal and state loans and grants, though private loans are also an option. Select school scholarships are available to students who demonstrate need and commitment to the field of massage and holistic medicine.
