NAU added several new campuses in the Midwest in the 1970s. Additional expansion occurred in the 1990s with more locations added and the school continues to expand nationwide.

National American University offers degree and diploma programs in a variety of disciplines including business, technology and health care. The school also offers a comprehensive and constantly expanding roster of online courses and degree programs.

About the Massage Therapy Program

The program of study and training for therapeutic massage at National American University combines classroom presentation and hands-on learning experiences. In order to successfully complete the massage therapy program students will need to demonstrate their proficiency in the various massage techniques. Additional required professional courses must also be completed with a “C” average.

Goals for students that are training to become massage therapists at NAU will be to prepare them to sit for the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Students will be provided with the essential knowledge and skills that will integrate the variety of therapeutic options necessary to work with specific populations. Students will also have a variety of massage therapy internships from which to select so that they can gain first hand, real world experience in applying their massage skills.
Graduates of the therapeutic massage therapy program will have been trained to prepare an appropriate massage therapy session and to combine the range of techniques and therapeutic options to meet the needs of each client. These students will also have received the proper training to prepare them to develop and successfully manage their own massage business if that is their goal.

Successful completion of the program requires 98 credits with coursework that includes Fundamentals of Massage Therapy, Neuromuscular Techniques, Medical Terminology, Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology, Clinical Kinesiology, Interpersonal Professional Communications, and Mastering Therapeutic Business.
