Colorado Massage Therapist Licensing and Certification Requirements

The state of Colorado passed the Massage Therapy Practice Act in 2008. The bill mandated the licensing of practicing massage therapists at the state level beginning April 1, 2009. The licensing program is administered by The Office of Massage Therapist Registration, a division of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.
The legislation enacted in the state of Colorado specifies that:
“… it is in the interest of the public health, safety, and welfare to require registration of massage therapists. Because proper and safe massage therapy is of statewide concern, this article is deemed to be an exercise of the police powers of the state.”
The licensing went into effect on April 1, 2009.
