Home to over 146,000 residents, Metairie was first settled by the French in the late 18th century. It’s name is derived from the French concept of sharecropping, known as Métairie, which was predominant in the city’s early days. Part of the Jefferson Parish, Metairie is home to many parks, some of which offer services such as discount piano lessons. In addition, the city hosts its own version of Mardi Gras, which is much more family-friendly than the celebration in New Orleans.
