About Blue Cliff College

Blue Cliff strives to provide students with the proficiency they need to succeed in their chosen careers. In addition, they seek to install or strengthen personal growth, professional development, and responsibility in students.

Founded in 1987, BCC specialized in massage therapy education. As the school expanded, so did its program offerings. With seven campuses, a wider range of students can benefit from Blue Cliff’s outstanding programs.

Hands-on learning and experience are the focus at BCC, where success is a key-word. Not only does BCC facilitate professional growth, they care about the student. From the Blue Cliff website: “Our philosophy is to inspire students to strive for excellence and to achieve maximum personal potential.”

About the Massage Therapy Program

Blue Cliff views massage therapy as both a science and an art. Not only can it be used to heal and revitalize the body, it can heal and soothe the mind. As more people in the United States recognize the benefits of alternative forms of medicine and healing, the demand for massage therapists will continue to grow.

This diploma program requires that students complete 53 credit hours. This usually takes about nine months (day classes) or fifteen months (night classes). Students build a strong foundation of knowledge -anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology – and techniques -Swedish, deep tissue, sports, neuromuscular, and Shiatsu massage.

At the Associate degree level, graduates can earn an Associate of Occupational Studies in Massage Therapy. A broader scope of training than the Diploma course of study, the AOS program is designed for future spa managers and prospective business owners. Eighteen months in length, an evening program is also available (which lasts 28 months).

Graduates of either program are able to work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, sports teams, salons and spas, physical therapy or pain management clinics, and cruises. Upon completion of the program, students are able to sit for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork Examination, which allows them to become licensed and registered Massage Therapists.

Faculty

Blue Cliff College took its name from an ancient Zen text, The Blue Cliff Records. This text contains dialogues between Zen masters and their students. The masters provide wisdom, experience, and insight to the students, while encouraging them to learn more and grow.

This is the philosophy Blue Cliff College faculty members embody. Students at BCC are encouraged to grow in every aspect, and the small class sizes and caring faculty ensure that it a reality. Learning by doing is important at BCC, and students have the benefit of faculty knowledge and experience.

Facilities

The Metairie campus of Blue Cliff College is a modern facility, including office space and classrooms. There is also an atrium where students can enjoy the weather and scenery while they study. All BCC campuses are equipped with lecture space, lab space for massage technique, break areas, computers, library, and administrative offices.
Professional-grade equipment includes: massage tables and chairs, hydrocollator (which heats and stores hot packs for massage therapy), Body Support Systems, skeletons, charts, massage tools, white boards, TV/VCR’s, training videos, and overhead projectors.

Accreditation

Blue Cliff College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology.

Financial Aid

Blue Cliff participates in federal financial aid programs, so students should fill out a FAFSA to determine if they meet eligibility requirements. In addition, Blue Cliff can fund a portion of tuition expenses for qualifying students, and there are a variety of financial plans available. Please speak with a financial aid representative to discuss your options.

Going to School in Metairie, LA

Metairie Massage SchoolsHome to over 146,000 residents, Metairie was first settled by the French in the late 18th century. It’s name is derived from the French concept of sharecropping, known as Métairie, which was predominant in the city’s early days.

Part of the Jefferson Parish, Metairie is home to many parks, some of which offer services such as discount piano lessons. In addition, the city hosts its own version of Mardi Gras, which is much more family-friendly than the celebration in New Orleans.

Al Copeland, founder of Popeye’s Chicken and Copeland’s restaurants hails from Metairie, as does Ellen DeGeneres and actor John Goodman. Brendan Benson, frontman for The Raconteurs, is also originally from Metairie.

A city committed to rebuilding, Metairie is a great place to live, work, and go to school!
