Originally founded in 1836 by the Shreve Town Company, Shreveport was initially designed to be town at the juncture of the Red River and Texas Trail. Since that time, Shreveport’s economy has become largely service-industry oriented, with the advent of riverboat gambling.
Prior to Hurricane Katrina, Shreveport was second only to New Orleans in Louisiana tourism. Popular casinos in the area include Diamond Jacks Casino, Eldorado Casino, Sam’s Town Casino, Boomtown Casino, and the Horseshoe Casino. In addition to gambling, the Louisiana Boardwalk offers shopping, restaurants, and a movie theater for residents and guests alike.
Rich in history, Shreveport was the home of the “Louisiana Hayride” radio program during the late 1940′s until 1960. In addition to Hank Williams Sr., Elvis Presley launched his career via the then-popular radio show.
