Going to School in Phoenix, AZ

phoenix arizonaIf you live in Phoenix you know how much the city and surrounding area have to offer. If you are considering living in the Phoenix area you will discover a city with a unique personality and a wealth of opportunity.

Situated in the Salt River Valley, or The Valley of the Sun, Phoenix is a relatively new city by American standards. Founded as a small farming community in 1868, the town saw moderate growth until 1888 when the railroad connected the city to major economic centers. The construction of dams and irrigation systems in the early 20th century provided precious water for agriculture and a growing population. During World War II, Phoenix became a major distribution center and saw an influx of new residents as the military opened large training facilities in the area.

Today, Phoenix is the fifth largest and the eighth fastest growing city in the United States. The city is particularly appealing because of its climate. With an average mean temperature of 72.6 degrees and well over 300 days of sunshine annually, Phoenix is quite attractive to those with an aversion to winter. However, the summer is exceptionally hot and August can be downright tropical. As a matter of fact, the Navajo name for Phoenix means, “this place is hot.”

Phoenix is a sprawling city so travel by car is the norm. There is plenty to see and do in the region so there is no chance to be bored. Tourist abound and may use Phoenix as a base from which to explore the natural wonders of Arizona, including the Grand Canyon, Sedona and the surrounding desert. Others visit to take advantage of year-round golf and spectacular resorts. These resorts normally offer a variety of spa services including an array of massage therapies from the standard to the exotic. Skilled massage therapists are in great demand in the Phoenix area given the extraordinary number of resort spas and private spas serving both visitors to, and residents of, Phoenix.
