Metro Business College is a Missouri-based vocational training center that helps students prepare to enter the working world in as little as three quarters. In addition to massage training, which remains one of the hot new choices, the school offers degrees and diplomas in accounting, business and computer specialist, medical billing and coding, and medical office assisting, among others. Set in Arnold, MO, a small but serviceable town in Jefferson County, the campus is one of four facilities operated under the Metro Business College name.
Metro Business College has been in operation for over 30 years. The school’s official objective is to provide students with the training they need to successfully land entry-level jobs. Although the focus used to be primarily on business and medical office functions, the school has diversified to include massage therapy and other healthcare-based programs that train students for more hands-on care opportunities.
It is one of the only schools in Missouri to offer this kind of training, especially in smaller towns where there isn’t a heavy focus on education beyond the high school level. Many students go on to work in entry-level careers with local employers as well as larger facilities in the bigger Missouri cities.
Metro Business College 2132 Tenbrook RoadFor students interested in the growing field of massage therapy, Metro Business College recently added to their healthcare training program. In as little as three quarters, students can learn everything they need to know about the massage industry, anatomy and physiology, and massage modalities (including Swedish massage, pre-natal massage, and kinesiology).
After successfully completing the course, graduates are prepared to sit for the national certification exam in keeping with Missouri standards in the massage field. No passing score or test time is guaranteed, but the school will put students in touch with the resources they need to do well on the exam.
The school’s dedicated instructors are chose for their abilities in providing an educational advantage over others in the field. The school’s lectures and class times are operated on a four day per week schedule, leaving Fridays free for students to study and get additional support from faculty members.
The Arnold campus is the newest addition to the Metro Business College lineup. Three other facilities in Cape Girardeau, Rolla, and Jefferson City round out the school. Class sizes are kept small in order to facilitate a more hands-on learning process. Students have access to all the technology and tools they need to get a feel for the real-world massage setting, including practice labs that simulate a spa facility.
Metro Business College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS). This makes it eligible to bestow degrees and certifications on qualifying students in keeping with standards through the U.S. Department of Education. It is certified by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education and approved by the Missouri State Board of Therapeutic Massage.
Financial aid is available to those who qualify. In addition to federal applications (FAFSA) that may connect students to loans and grants, the school is also affiliated with Central Finance Loan, which is a credit-based provider of loans of up to $4,000 for eligible students. Most students (an estimated 85 percent) rely on some sort of financial assistance.
Arnold is the largest city in Jefferson County, though small in terms of most city sizes in the United States. The focus here is on family and community, and the population of just over 20,000 residents is friendly and welcoming. Although not the sort of place students move solely for a college education, the Arnold campus is a good place for those who live in the area or are hoping to relocate to somewhere low-key and affordable. In fact, Money Magazine ranked the12th Best and Most Affordable City in the United States in 2008.
