Massage School LicensingMetro Business College is a vocational training center that provides students with a complete Associate degree or certification-level education in as little as one year. Programs include those related to business administration, medical assisting, medical office assisting, computers and technology, and accounting. One of the most recent additions to the educational lineup is massage therapy, which is offered at all four MBC campuses in the shape of a one-year certification program.

About the School

Metro Business College has been a staple of the Missouri education setting for over 30 years. The first campus opened in Jefferson City, but additional campuses joined the ranks soon thereafter. In addition to the original business courses, the school has since expanded to include medical courses and the ever-popular massage therapy options.

Since its inception, Metro Business College has put a focus on training that meets industry standards in a real working environment. To that end, they have several affiliations with area businesses, and have included a curriculum that prepares students for entry-level work in their respective fields.

Programs

Students interested in massage therapy will find a 61 credit-hour course that combines general business knowledge with specific massage modalities in use by top massage providers today. This is a certification course designed to last three quarters (about one year) in all, covering everything from anatomy/physiology and massage fundamentals through techniques like Swedish massage, kinesiology, and pre-natal massage.

Graduates of Metro Business College’s massage program are qualified to sit for the national certification exam, and those who are fortunate enough to pass become licensed massage therapists. This is enough professional training for most entry-level massage positions in the state of Missouri, and most students go on to get this designation.

Faculty

The faculty members at Metro Business College are chosen for their dedication and experience in the field. Many of them come directly from their own massage practices, and others have great teaching credentials. Class sizes are small and focused, so that every student gets the one-on-one training he or she needs, and there is even a “day off” from classes every Friday to allow for more focused studying and study assistance.

Facilities

The Rolla campus is one of four Metro Business College facilities in Missouri. Like all of the school facilities, this one is a modern setup complete with both lecture classrooms and hands-on massage labs. Students should be able to find everything they need in this location, including several of the administrative offices.

Accreditation

Metro Business College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. This designation means that the school is able to bestow diplomas and degrees on qualifying students. The massage therapy program has further recognition from the Missouri State Board of Therapeutic Massage. This designation is unique among many other vocational-level schools offering the same curriculum.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available to those who qualify, and an estimated 85 percent of Metro Business College students accept some form of help paying for school. This most often takes the shape of federal/state grants and loans, though private loans and the school’s Central Finance Loan (of up to $4,000) are also popular options. Scholarships may be accepted with some restrictions, but are not offered by the school itself.

About the City

Missouri Massage SchoolsRolla is a medium-sized town in Phelps County, Missouri. Like most of the other locations of Metro Business College, this is a fairly small community that focuses on residential areas and a strong sense of community. However, there is also a strong science and technology center here, thanks to the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus. There are many students and scientists in and around the area, which adds a unique appeal to massage therapists interested in targeting this sector.  The great outdoors is also a focal point here, and sporting activities like hiking and biking are popular, especially among the younger crowds.
