Scranton began the process of rebuilding after the collapse heavy manufacturing in 1985. By focusing on preserving historic buildings and communities, they revitalized the tourism industry. The downtown area is also sought after by developers for use as office, residential, and retail space.
Once known as the “Armpit of America,” Scranton has worked to instill pride and character to the city. This has been helped tremendously by Sno Mountain ski resort, an AAA affiliate of the Yankees, a big concert venue, and the television show, The Office, which is set in Scranton. Scranton has a rich past and a rich future.
