About the Massage Therapy Program
McCann College offers a diploma program in Massage Therapy. This is a 64 credit course, and can be completed in 12 months if students take 16 credits per term. Of course, students can choose to lengthen the time it takes to complete the program, especially if they have work and family obligations.
Massage is a growing field within the health care industry. More and more doctors and patients are seeing the value in this ancient, respected, and effective form of healing, so demand for qualified massage therapists will continue to grow.
McCann makes sure students have the proper training in all aspects of massage. Here is a look at the areas in which Massage Therapy students are trained: introduction to massage, Swedish massage, hydrotherapy and aromatherapy, anatomy and physiology, kinesiology and somatic psychology.
In addition, students will be trained in energy based modalities, special populations, law, business, and ethics, career development and career management, general education requirements (college English, math, psychology), and a student clinic.
As you can see, McCann students focus on massage, business aspects, and professionalism. Upon graduation, students will be qualified to work in spas, resorts, health care clinics, nursing homes, and private practices. They are also eligible to sit for the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.
