About the School

Broadview University began as the Bryman School. Founded in 1977 to provide career training for medical assistants, the Bryman School was based only in Salt Lake City and served a fairly small student population. Over the course of the next twenty years, the school changed focus and names (to Utah Career College in 1995), incorporating additional fields of study and advanced degrees all the way up to the Master’s level for select fields.

In 2000, Utah Career College expanded to include the West Jordan campus; Layton opened its doors in 2007 and Orem began in 2008. It wasn’t until 2010 that the school became known as Broadview University as part of the Globe Education Network. Additional campuses in Southern Idaho are expected soon.

About the Program

Broadview University offers two massage therapy programs. The first is a diploma program, which can be completed in as little as one year (when taken at a full-time rate). Students learn body mechanics, anatomy and physiology, common massage modalities, and business practices—all of which are complimented by a practicum in which their skills are put to use in a real-world setting.

The AAS program is a two-year degree in which students earn an Associate degree while also learning massage. In addition to a few general education classes, students learn advanced techniques in modalities like Swedish and Thai massage, trigger point therapy, craniosacral work, and massage for babies and pregnant women. When taken full-time, the course takes 18 months to complete. For both massage programs, successful graduates are eligible to sit for the national certification exam.

Faculty

The school’s mission, to “demonstrate We Care by preparing career-focused, community-minded graduates for the global workforce,” is brought to life every day in their rate of successful job placement. Faculty members are industry experienced and bring years of real-world training to the classroom. The massage therapy chair at the Layton campus is a Broadview alumni with over 15 years of working experience as an independent massage practitioner.

Facilities

Broadview University provides many of the materials and supplies students need to learn their trade. Massage tables, lotions, oils, and towels are provided, and are all in keeping with industry standards. Most of the training is done on site and in the school’s massage lab, with plenty of focus on hands-on learning.
