The Institute of Business and Medical Careers (IBMC) is a vocational and trade school offering entry-level training with a strong career focus. Many of the programs offered revolve around the field of allied health, including massage, which provides both healthcare and massage business training in less than two years. The Cheyenne campus is one of four IMBC locations, each one offering a different lineup of programs and class times.

About the School

IBMC has been in operation since 1987. The original facility, Medical Careers Training Center, was located in Fort Collins, Colorado. It was established to provide training in medical assisting only. In 1991, it changed owners to be operated by The Laub Company, Inc. (who still owns it today). By 1995, the curriculum diversified to include additional business programs in other facilities. The main campus remains in Fort Collins.

In addition to massage, students can choose programs in business administration, accounting, medical assisting, medical billing and coding, paralegal studies, and pharmacy tech. Classes are available on a flexible schedule that allows you to decide if you would like morning, afternoon, or evening courses.

About the Program

The Therapeutic Massage program is offered as both a diploma and a degree course. Students learn both the art and the science of therapeutic massage, with a focus on hands-on training and basic education in body mechanics. Specific modalities include Swedish massage, neuro-muscular techniques, infant and prenatal massage, sports massage, hydrotherapy, Reflexology, and chair massage. All of these techniques are put to use in the clinical practice, an on-site massage and spa facility open to the public.

The student clinic is open Tuesday through Thursday during the afternoon. Students are expected to put in a certain number of unpaid work hours before they are eligible to graduate, and may go on to continue working at the clinic as a post-graduate employee.

Faculty

IBMC employs industry experienced professionals to serve as faculty members. Over all the campuses and all the programs, the full-time faculty at IBMC hold over 150 years of experience. The emphasis of all classes is on hands-on skills development, with a low student-to-teacher ratio for enhanced learning.

Facilities

The facilities at the Cheyenne campus of IBMC come equipped with the tools and technology students need to complete their course. The campus boasts medical (and massage) laboratories, computer labs, lecture classrooms, and massage clinic rooms. Students will also find a study area and resource center on campus, with hi-speed Internet access available during school hours.

This particular campus has been in operation since 2005, and very recently moved to this new 17,000 square foot facility.

Financial aid is available to those who qualify in the form of government aid (federal and state loans, grants, and work-study options as well as veteran’s benefits), private funding, and payment plans.
