About the School

Broadview University has been offering career education for over 30 years. The school opened its doors in 1977 as the Bryman School, offering hands-on training in medical assisting. It was originally found only in Salt Lake City. In 1995, the school changed its name to Utah Career College and began awarding Associate degrees in a variety of fields.

Today, it is a member of the Globe Education Network and partners with Globe University and the Minnesota School of Business to continue providing education in keeping with the school’s standards.

About the Program

The massage therapy course is offered in two formats: The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) and the diploma course. The AAS massage degree takes 18 months to complete, and covers the techniques and modalities students may need to practice massage in an entry-level capacity. Coursework includes Swedish massage, Thai massage, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, craniosacral massage and lymphatic massage, just to name a few. The school provides a complete curriculum and tuition overview for this course on their website.

The diploma program is completed over the course of one year. Much of the training is the same, with more of a focus on body mechanics and basic business practices than advanced techniques in each modality. Both programs prepare students to sit for the national licensing exam, though a passing score isn’t guaranteed, and students are expected to pay the fees for testing on their own.

Faculty members for general education classes are expected to have an academic background, while those who teach specialized courses (including those for massage) often have real-world experience and connections to the community. The learning environment is designed to be supportive and collaborative, and office hours may provide a chance for students to get additional help in their education.

Broadview University facilities are equipped with most of the modern massage tools and features needed to provide real-world training. Students have access to tables, towels, lotions, and oils needed to practice their trade, and in a setting that is both academic in nature and updated in terms of the massage industry. On-site learning facilities and classrooms are meant to emulate other universities in the state.

Broadview University is accredited by Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), which carries further recognition from the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education. It is also approved by the Utah State Approving Agency for veterans’ education and the Workforce Investment Act.
