About Northwestern College

Northwestern College has been part of the Chicago community for more than a hundred years.  In fact, the school recently received the Illinois State Historical Society’s Centennial Award.  J.F. Fish, the founder, foresaw a need for an educational institution to prepare highly skilled, competent workers for the business community.Northwestern College

He believed that specializing in focused education for career-oriented students would fill that need, and that vision continues to drive Northwestern College’s mission today.
Northwestern College provides exceptional support and one-on-one instruction to help post-high school students prepare for careers.  It also offers flexible scheduling for students who work and have outside responsibilities.  Students can attend full time or part time, and can take day, evening or weekend classes, and can change their schedules on a quarterly basis as needed.

Northwestern College readily accepts transfer credits from other educational institutions and allows students the opportunity to earn credits for life experience by taking written examinations.  Students who plan to continue their education after graduation from Northwestern College find that their credits easily transfer to other colleges and universities.  The school offers lifetime career placement to graduates.

About the Massage Therapy Programs

Northwestern College has two massage therapy programs:  a certificate program and an associate degree program. The certificate program is designed for people who want a fast track to a career.  There are no general education classes; all learning is designed to prepare students for entry level employment as quickly as possible.  The program requires 40 quarter credit hours, and teaches students the foundational knowledge and skills required of a massage therapist.

The Associate Degree program is a two year program leading to an Associate of Applied Science in Massage Therapy.  Students learn various types of massage and adjunctive therapies, business and entrepreneurial skills and take general education classes.  After graduation, students can find employment in many settings, continue their education or begin a business of their own.

Northwestern College is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and is approved by the Board of Higher Education of the State of Illinois.

Financial Aid

90% of the students at Northwestern College receive financial aid.  Students are encouraged to meet with a Financial Aid representative and to complete the FAFSA and other required forms.  Financial aid is available through Federal, State and private sources and includes scholarships, grants, loans and work-study.  Northwestern College provides about $4 million per year in scholarships to students. Northwestern College is approved for Veteran’s and GI Bill education.

Attending School in Chicago, IL

chicago massage schoolsStretching along the shores of Lake Michigan, Chicago, the “Windy City” is the prototypical Midwestern American city. It is an economic, cultural, retail, educational, health care and transportation hub for the entire country. 9.5 million people live in the Chicago metro area, making it the 3rd largest metro area in the country and one of the most influential cities in the world.

Chicago has an earthy, lusty, lively history—the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 where most of the business district was destroyed, the labor riots of the late 19th century, gangsters and the Mob and Al Capone during the Prohibition years, and the riotous 1968 Democratic National Convention.  The first controlled nuclear test was conducted in Chicago in 1942 as part of the Manhattan Project. Chicago has museums and national historic sites that allow you to explore its rich past.

The city is a cultural center, too.  Symphony, opera, ballet, theater—you name it and you can find it in Chicago.  There are several art museums, the Museum of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium.  Improvisational comedy began in Chicago at Second City.

Chicago was named the “Best Sports City in America” in 2006.  The city hosts 15 professional sports teams including the Bears, Cubs, White Sox, Bulls, Blackhawks (hockey) and Fire (soccer).

Maybe the best thing you’ll discover about living and going to school in Chicago is the food.  There are literally thousands of wonderful restaurants, many of which offer delicious ethnic fare.  Better still is the genuine Chicago ethnic fare:  deep dish pizza and real Chicago-style hot dogs.
